In Spain, free training is a real, established system. Through SEPE, FUNDAE and each region's employment service, publicly funded courses let you learn new skills and earn a certificate without paying tuition. Below, choose the path that fits where you are right now.

Be cautious of anyone charging a fee to "guarantee" a subsidized place — that is not how the public system works.
How free training really works in Spain
The Spanish system of formación para el empleo is financed with public and European funds so that participants pay nothing. Two institutions anchor it. SEPE (Servicio Público de Empleo Estatal) coordinates subsidized training, historically focused on unemployed job seekers but increasingly open to employed workers too. FUNDAE (Fundación Estatal para la Formación en el Empleo) manages workplace training, funded through the contributions companies already make, so staff can upskill on the job.

On top of these, every autonomous community publishes its own calls, and accredited training centers deliver the courses. The catalogue spans digital skills, languages, administration and finance, hospitality, logistics and social care — the fields where hiring is most active. Some courses last a few hours; others run for hundreds and lead to a full official qualification.
The key distinction to grasp is the certificate. A short course usually gives a completion diploma from the center, while a longer, structured program can lead to a certificado de profesionalidad — an officially recognized qualification valid across the country. Knowing which one a course offers before you enroll saves disappointment later.
